Human Interferon-Alpha Increases the Cytotoxic Effect of CD56+ Cord Blood-Derived Cytokine-Induced Killer Cells on Human B-Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Cell Lines
Researchers investigated the possibility of combining adoptive immunotherapy with cytokine-induced killer (CIK) cells and human interferon-alpha (hIFN-a) in order to potentiate the cytotoxicity of CIK cells against B-lineage acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). Cord blood- derived CIK cells were differentiated, stimulated with phosphate-buffered saline or hIFN-a, and tested for cytotoxic activity. [Cytotherapy] Abstract

Development of a New Humanized Mouse Model to Study Acute Inflammatory Arthritis

Notch Signals Contribute to Preserve the Multipotentiality of Human CD34+CD38-CD45RA-CD90+ Hematopoietic Progenitors by Maintaining T Cell Lineage Differentiation Potential
Researchers identified cord blood CD34+CD38-CD45RA-CD90+ cells as one of the earliest targets of Notch in human hematopoiesis. Upon Notch activation CD34+CD38- cells are blocked in their differentiation at the CD34+CD38-CD45RA-CD90+ stage. Notch signaling is required before lymphoid commitment to preserve T-cell potential of CD34+CD38-CD45RA-CD90+ cells. [Exp Hematol] Abstract

Co-Culture with Sertoli Cells Promotes Proliferation and Migration of Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Scientists isolated human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUCMSCs) from human cords and Sertoli cells from mouse testes, and co-cultured them using a Transwell system.
