TOP STORY
Extra-Hepatic Sources of FVIII Potentially Contribute to the Coagulation Cascade Correcting the Bleeding Phenotype of Hemophilia A Mice
To further establish the role of blood cells in expressing FVIII, the authors studied various mouse and human hematopoietic cell types. They identified FVIII in cells isolated from peripheral and cord blood, as well as bone marrow. [Haematologica] Abstract | Full Article

PUBLICATIONS (Ranked by impact factor of the journal)
Role of Nonmuscle Myosin II in Migration of Wharton’s Jelly-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Investigators attempted to identify the role of nonmuscle myosin II (NMII), if any, in migration of Wharton’s jelly-derived mesenchymal stem cells (WJ-MSCs). Expression of NMII isoforms, NMIIA and NMIIB, was observed both at RNA and protein levels in WJ-MSCs. [Stem Cells Dev] Abstract

Isolation of Human Neural Stem Cells from the Amniotic Fluid with Diagnosed Neural Tube Defects
Researchers describe an efficient method to isolate and propagate human neural stem cells (NSCs) from the amniotic fluid with diagnosed neural tube defects, specifically, anencephaly. These amniotic fluid-derived NSCs formed neurospheres and underwent long-term expansion in vitro. [Stem Cells Dev] Abstract

Human Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cell Transplantation Restores Damaged Ovaries
Scientists investigated transplantation methods for human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells can recover ovarian function that has been damaged by chemotherapy. [J Cell Mol Med] Full Article

Placental Mesenchymal Stromal Cells Rescue Ambulation in Ovine Myelomeningocele
Researchers demonstrated that using early gestation human placenta-derived mesenchymal stromal cells to augment in utero repair of myelomeningocele (MMC) results in significant and consistent improvement in neurologic function at birth in the rigorous fetal ovine model of MMC. [Stem Cells Transl Med] Abstract

Human Umbilical Cord Matrix Mesenchymal Stem Cells Suppress the Growth of Breast Cancer by Expression of Tumor Suppressor Genes
Comparative analyses of two types of umbilical cord matrix mesenchymal stem cells (UCMSC) suggest that rat UCMSC-dependent growth regulation is significantly stronger than that of human UCMSC. Comparative analyses of two types of UCMSC suggest that rat UCMSC-dependent growth regulation is significantly stronger than that of human UCMSC. [PLoS One] Full Article

Second Allogeneic Transplantation Using Unrelated Cord Blood for Relapsed Hematological Malignancies after Allogeneic Transplantation
Investigators analyzed the results of second allogeneic stem cell transplantation using single-unit unrelated cord blood in 34 adult patients with relapsed hematological malignancies after initial allogeneic stem cell transplantation in their institution. [Leuk Lymphoma] Abstract

Feeder-Free and Xeno-Free Culture of Human Pluripotent Stem Cells Using UCBS Matrix
Researchers established a new feeder-free and xeno-free system for culturing human pluripotent stem cells. The system consists of the matrix, which was prepared from human umbilical cord blood serum (UCBS) and used to coat the culture plates, and the xeno-free medium, which was conventional serum-free hES medium supplemented with high concentrations of bFGF and fibronectin. [Cell Biol Int] Abstract
